'Kia ora all, I'm Mel McKenzie and you can find me at Ramsey House on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.  I'm the Ecumenical Chaplain at Victoria ("ecumenical" meaning fostering relationships across churches or different denominations).

My background is working in politics, as a lawyer in refugee family reunification and community work in the local church, so I'm always up for a yarn about the big issues kicking around or whatever things are facing students at the moment. I get heaps of joy from talking with staff and students about their  stories, their passions and what's happening in their spiritual life.'

Chaplaincy plays a vital role in providing spiritual and emotional support to staff and students regardless of belief or background.

We are trained professionals who offer confidential and non-judgmental guidance, counsel, encouragement and comfort to individuals facing a range of challenges, such as illness, trauma, grief, and moral distress. We offer a safe space to students to explore beliefs and values.

Chaplaincy services also offer community building, education, and advocacy; aiming to promote well-being, resilience, and a sense of meaning and purpose in life.

24 hour, 7 days a week support: Call +64 3 479 8497 to speak to a chaplain.

If no one is in the office, the number will redirect to one of our team 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. If it is urgent, we are on hand to support regardless of the time. If it's not urgent, we would be very happy to arrange a time to meet with you during normal work hours.

Otago Polytechnic
Our chaplains at Otago Polytechnic are here to journey with you during the highs and lows of your studies.  We are a small team who believe that everyone is made in the image of God and that we are called to represent Him on campus.
Navigating the present culture, particularly in tertiary education, isn’t always easy.  Our chaplains are here to walk with you and encourage you on your faith journey – whether its through prayer, conversation, having a coffee, a laugh or a cry; we provide a confidential and supportive service.  Shari and Steve are both Christians but can connect you with other chaplains if you’d prefer talking with someone of a different faith.
